How to Prepare Your Home For Sale

Nobody likes selling their home. It is a place where memories are. But, no matter how sentimental we may feel, for one reason or another, we have to sell it someday. Maybe we outgrew it, maybe we have to move someplace for a job, etc. The reason for moving and selling it is not important. What is important is the preparation. Yes, selling a home is doing a lot more than just sweeping the entryway and making the beds. You have to do a lot more if you want to sell it quickly and for the best possible price. In other words, you have to stage it. By doing that, your home will not only sell as soon as it is listed but it will also sell for a lot higher price than you thought. But, do not worry, you do not have to do anything hard or overwhelming. You just have to follow our tips and tricks. Thus, without further ado, here is how, here is how to prepare your home for sale.

Declutter Your Home

First things first – if you want to prepare your home for sale, you must declutter it. If you are like the rest of us, you probably have a ton of stuff. Your cabinets, storages, and closets (among other things) are overflowing with items. These will make selling your home a lot harder – with soo much clutter everywhere, potential buyers will not be able to see your home’s true potential. Thus, sell your house fast, start by decluttering it. We suggest creating 5 piles of items – one for you (what you will pack and bring to your new home), one for items that you will give to friends and family, one for items that you will donate, one for items that you will see, and finally, one for items that you will throw away. Once you get rid of all those items, you will be left with a beautiful, clutter-free home.

Organize What is Left

Before you start looking for movers to relocate you from this home to another one, and before you start looking for ways to get a good price for their moving services, focus on your current home first. Finding movers and moving will be easy, preparing your home for selling will not. Thus, besides decluttering it, you should also organize it. If you followed our advice from above and got rid of most of the items that you do not need, your job will be much easier now. Apart from organizing visible items such as books on your shelves, or pillows on your sofa, we strongly advise you to organize your cabinets and closets too. Yes, the buyers will peak! And, when they do, better not give them a negative surprise. Spare some time to organize everything around your home and you will find buyers who will buy your home instantly.

Depersonalize Everything

When it comes to selling a home, depersonalization is everything! When buyers walk into a home that is neutral, they can instantly invasion themselves living there. That is what sells your home fast. However, when they walk into a home that is full of your personal items, doing that is hard. Thus, do your best to remove anything that is too personal from the home you are trying to sell. That can be your family portrait, the pictures on the walls, heirlooms, souvenirs, etc. Moreover, if you have some unusual wall colors, carpets, or even furniture pieces, it would be a good idea to remove them. Repaint the walls into something white, beige, or soft pastel, and move anything too bright into your storage or into your new home. Trust us, doing this will improve the value of your home as well as make it sell quickly.

Fix What is Broken

Another thing that can add value to your home is remodeling. So, if your budget allows it, remodel your kitchen and bathroom first. Then, remodel walls and floors. And, finally, remodel doors and windows. Remodeling these things in your home can increase its value by up to 30%. But, before you start looking for handymen to do this, be aware of the remodeling costs. They do come with a hefty price tag. However, there is a way you can add value by remodeling without actually remodeling too! Instead of spending tens of thousands of dollars on the previously mentioned projects, you can do smaller, cheaper, DIY ones. For instance, you can repaint the walls, floors, windows, and doors by yourself. You can change the knobs and handles as well. Or, you can change the lighting fixtures. Even these small remodeling projects can increase the value of your home, you just have to remodel where it counts!

Clean, Clean, Clean

After you are done upgrading your home with different projects, it is time to clean! Before you open your doors to potential buyers, you must make sure your home is sparkling clean. So, no, we are not talking about just vacuuming and dusting! We are talking about a deep clean. If you can, hire professional movers for this. They are the only people who can ensure every inch of your home is clean and sanitized. But, if you cannot, well, brace yourself. You will need to take a weekend off and gather all the necessary cleaning supplies and tools. Do not take this cleaning project lightly – all buyers love clean homes and are more likely to buy them over those dirty and neglected ones. Thus, clean, clean, clean. Clean every corner of every room. And, do not forget to give some cleaning love to your basement, attic, garage, and storage too!
